In 1950, Friedrich Grohe noted an opportunity to infiltrate the South African Market and with the assistance of Paul Schultz, in 1951, established the Friedrich Grohe Taps and Mixers Manufacturing plant in Krugersdorp which was poised to manufacture taps and plumbing fittings for the local South African market.
In 1966, after a sabbatical from Cobra, Paul Schultz became instrumental in the formation of Consolidated Brass Foundries which incorporated Pegler, a British valve manufacturing company established in Benoni, Sanbra and Cobra. This amalgamation was completed when Union Brass was taken into the fold, creating what was then South Africa’s largest plumbing fittings manufacturer.
Almost 20 years later an independent Cobra was born when Cobra LTD Brassware merged with Castle Brassworks.
A Truly South African Brand
Soon after its launch in 1951, Cobra adopted its trademark blue ‘water swirl’ logo that captured the movement, colour and very essence of water.
In 2012, Cobra re-launched its brand with a fresh new image that better reflects its position in the market as a leading lifestyle brand. Cobra’s one-dimensional blue insignia was overhauled to reflect a crisp, 3D ‘chrome’ logo that represents the craftsmanship and innovation of every Cobra tap. This innovative identity is successfully capturing the heritage of its past and effectively positions the company for the future.
Cobra is a world leader in water control technology, research and development. With its unwavering commitment to quality and constant focus on global trends, Cobra has long had a reputation for bringing to market the most cutting-edge products based on the most forward thinking designs whilst, remaining one of South Africa’s most recognizable and popular brands with a proud heritage and a reputation for world-class standards. In 1967, Cobra was the third company to be listed by the South African Bureau of Standards.
Cobra’s product portfolio also includes a comprehensive range of technical products; flush valves, pressure control valves, demand and metering taps and its well-known compression and capillary fittings.
Cobra’s taps, mixers, showers and sanitaryware perfectly combine form and function to offer beautifully crafted, statement pieces that enhance classic and contemporary bathroom and kitchen settings. Individually styled, these pieces have a strong design element that bring spaces to life be it clean; angular contours, sleek flowing lines or timelessly traditional profiles that will never date.
